Heavy medium cyclone is a widely used equipment for solid-liquid separation. Its working principle is based on the cyclone principle, which guides the solid-liquid mixture from the inlet into the cyclone chamber and uses the effect of the rotating flow field to separate the solid-liquid. Its characteristics are simple structure, high efficiency, low energy consumption, and suitable for different combinations of particles and liquids.
There is a rotating conical chamber inside the heavy medium cyclone, which separates the solid-liquid mixture through the effect of vortex flow. The material entering the swirl chamber will undergo rotational flow. Under the action of gravity, larger particles will deposit downwards, while smaller particles will be carried up by centrifugal force and flow out at the upper end of the swirl chamber. Under the action of centrifugal force, a hollow area is formed at the center of the swirl chamber, and there is a layer of rotating liquid flowing around it. The velocity of this liquid layer increases with the increase of radial distance, forming three different regions: solid, hollow, and outer.
